Trainee story
Trinity joined Sprouts after hearing about the program from her sister, who had previously completed an internship at Mago. As a hands on learner who enjoys cooking, she saw the program as an opportunity to build practical skills, explore the culinary field, and gain experience in a professional kitchen. Although this was her first experience in a restaurant environment, Trinity was excited to challenge herself and learn something new.
During her internship at Mago with Chef Mark Liberman, Trinity gained experience with food preparation, kitchen organization, and understanding how ingredients move through a professional kitchen. She worked closely with Chef Mark, Sous Chef Gerald, Kyle, Marvin, and Valerie, building relationships with the team over the course of the program. What started as conversations focused only on work gradually grew into deeper connections as she became more comfortable sharing parts of her life outside the kitchen. Trinity especially enjoyed helping prepare food for staff meal and learning more about the behind the scenes work that keeps a restaurant running smoothly. One of her favorite responsibilities was washing dishes because it gave her a chance to focus, stay organized, and contribute to the team in a meaningful way.
When Trinity first started at Mago, she was nervous about whether she could keep up with the pace of a professional kitchen. She often found herself asking if she was completing tasks correctly and worried about making mistakes. As the internship continued, she became much more confident in her abilities and developed a stronger understanding of kitchen logistics and workflow. Her knife skills improved significantly throughout the program, and she feels much more comfortable making precise cuts than when she first started. She also learned to trust herself and gained confidence in her ability to complete tasks independently.
Sprouts provided Trinity with a supportive environment where she could learn by doing and build confidence through experience. The program came at a meaningful time in her life, as she continues to carry the memory of her father, who passed away five years ago. Through the encouragement of her mentors and coworkers, she discovered that she is capable of much more than she initially believed. She appreciated learning alongside people from different generations and valued the opportunity to work with a team that was patient and willing to teach.
While Trinity entered the program wanting to expand her cooking knowledge and add new recipes to her collection, the experience also helped her clarify her future goals. She still enjoys culinary arts and plans to continue cooking, but she is also interested in pursuing auto repair and kinesiology. No matter which path she chooses, the confidence, workplace skills, and hands on experience she gained at Mago will continue to support her future success.
