Trainee story
Aiden came into the Sprouts Chef Training program with a strong foundation and genuine curiosity about cooking. He has been involved in the kitchen from a young age, starting around 7 years old when he and his dad would bond over watching chef shows together. As he got older, Aiden took on more responsibility by packing his own lunches and cooking regularly at home. His early passion for food led him to apprentice under a chef, where he gained valuable first-hand experience and developed a hunger to learn even more. For Aiden, Sprouts was a perfect opportunity to sharpen his culinary skills, better prepare for adulthood, and build confidence in himself both inside and outside the kitchen.Throughout the internship, Aiden has consistently shown engagement, asking thoughtful questions and embracing each challenge. One of the biggest hurdles for him at the start was adjusting to the fast-paced environment and memorizing the restaurant’s menu. Over time, he has grown more efficient, mastering prep work, plating during service, and communicating clearly under pressure. He enjoys working alongside Chef Tim and past Sprout intern Audrey, who have both provided him with mentorship, tips, and honest feedback. He has especially appreciated learning how to manage his time effectively, balancing schoolwork with his internship, and still looking forward to his spring break trip to New York.Aiden’s favorite dishes to work on include gnocchi, appetizers, and salads, but he’s also eager to explore other stations and dive into learning about desserts. He’s noticed that what once felt overwhelming — like prepping for the Caesar salad or remembering menu items — has now become second nature. Through this experience, he has gained more than just technical skills. Sprouts has helped Aiden build confidence, improve his communication under pressure, and take accountability in a professional kitchen setting.Looking ahead, Aiden sees culinary arts as more than just a hobby or a stepping stone — it’s a personal passion that will continue to be part of his life. While his long-term goals include exploring other interests like cars, business, and even starting his own company one day, he appreciates how cooking has equipped him with discipline and creativity. Thanks to Sprouts, Aiden feels more prepared for life’s challenges and is excited to continue experimenting with food, both for fun and as a possible side hustle to support himself through college
