Shaunice’s Story: Shaunice lost her parents to alcoholism and drugs when she was young, forcing her to turn to prostitution and selling drugs to support herself. When Shaunice found out she was pregnant with her first child, she knew she had to make a change. Wanting to protect her baby from what she had to go through growing up, Shaunice enrolled in the GROW culinary training program through Beyond Emancipation to explore her interest in cooking and quickly realized she had discovered her passion. She applied to the Chef-In-Training program seeking placement to put her skills to the test and quickly surpassed expectations at her host restaurant, Hillside Supper Club. At the end of her internship, Hillside Supper Club was happy to offer Shaunice a job working the weekend brunch rush, and we are proud to say she accepted and works there to this day.
Future Goals: “My future goal is to travel the world with my family to work under Michelin chefs. My ultimate goal is to become a celebrity chef, and to be known for a famous signature alcoholic slushy.”

“I wanted to join Sprouts because I wanted an opportunity, and Sprouts was the first one who jumped up and gave me that opportunity. It just so happened that I loved the work that they gave me.”
