Mikey’s Story: At just eight years old, Mikey started selling drugs, and as he grew older, his criminal activity escalated to stealing cars and skipping school. After his mother’s passing, Mikey made a resolution to turn his life around and “make her proud.” With the help of Chef Greg from Nojo and the Sprouts Chef Training team, Mikey developed both his culinary skills and the life skills necessary to maintain a job in the real world. Despite battling the loss of his mother and deep-seated habits, Mikey persevered, working incredibly hard to successfully graduate from the program.

After Sprouts: Post-internship, Mikey was hired on at Nojo and then went on to cook at local restaurants in Oakland.
